It was just over two years ago (on July 1, 2020) that RTL introduced Kaltura to the campus. (For those who aren’t quite sure about what Kaltura is: it’s the campus video management platform, and it surfaces in bCourses as Media Gallery and My Media.)  The platform has been used extensively since then to create, save, and share video content: Kaltura content has been added to over 5700 course sites, and close to 3 million hours of Kaltura content has been viewed.

A Campus-wide Emergency alert has been issued.Campus police continue to investigate this credible campus-wide threat. If you are not on campus, please stay away from the area. Facilities Services is locking buildings on campus. If you are in a building, please continue to stay where you are and move away from doors and windows. If you are not in a building, please leave the campus immediately.

All campus services are closed until further notice (e.g. libraries, dining, parking garages).

As we near the end of the Spring 2022 semester, we want to share an improvement that RTL has made in the classroom based on your feedback from the Classroom Technology Feedback Survey - Fall 2021 that we sent in December 2021. Based on our helpdesk ticket review, our team was aware that audio capture for Course Capture was a top issue in our classrooms. As a result, we included a question in the Fall 2021 survey to gauge options to reduce audio capture issues in our classrooms.

The Academic Senate’s Committee on Teaching cordially invites you to the 62nd Annual Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA), a ceremony and reception to honor five faculty recognized this year for their inspiring and transformational teaching. This year’s ceremony will also honor the accomplishments of the four DTA recipients from 2020, whom the campus was unable to honor in 2020 with a ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to replace a projector 25 feet above the ground or what goes into refreshing classroom technology at UC Berkeley? If the answer is yes, then here is a glimpse into this process as our engineers, Vince Barma, Nich Caldwell, and Steve Johnson, refreshed 100 Lewis over the Winter Break in December 2021 - January 2022.

Updated Guidance as of February 2, 2022:
Thanks to the hard work and collaboration between our hardware vendor and the classroom technology services team, a workaround has been implemented in all of our video conference capable rooms and Monterey (macOS 12) devices can now connect to our classroom cameras in our general assignment classrooms for use in Zoom or other video conferencing platforms.

What’s new?

After running pilots of iClicker Cloud and Poll Everywhere in Fall 2021, Research, Teaching, and Learning is licensing both tools at no cost to students or instructors. Support for iClicker Classic is being phased out.
