We utilize SensusAccess to assist with our Alt Media conversions. SensusAccess is a self-service solution that automates the conversion of documents into a range of alternative formats including mp3, e-books, Braille, and Daisy. The service can also be used to convert otherwise inaccessible documents such as image-only pdf files, scanned images, lecture notes or other educational material into more accessible formats.
SensusAccess operates through a webform that operates through most major browsers.
Depending on the quality of the source file, conversion results may vary greatly. In order to achieve the best conversation results, observe the following practices or visit the Computer Facilities staff on the first floor of Moffitt Undergraduate Library for assistance.
High-quality Bookedge Scanners
An OpticBook 4800 Book Scanner and a Portable Reading Camera are available in the Computer Facility on the first floor of Moffitt Undergraduate Library. ETS Staff are available by appointment to assist with hardware introductory tutorials and troubleshooting, but cannot provide actual scanning services. The Disabled Students Program also offers (for students only) the Self-Scan Lab in the Hearst Field Annex. For full-service scanning, clients must use one of the official alt-media channels on campus.
