On Friday, May 20, bCourses will be updated to use the New User Interface (UI) developed by Canvas. All institutions using Canvas are required to transition to the New UI by Summer 2016.
The New UI features a variety of enhancements and changes to the platform to make it more accessible for keyboard and screenreader users, as well as more responsive on mobile devices, but maintains the existing course experience for instructors and students.
Changes introduced by the New UI include:
- Updated login page, showing all course enrollments as tiles, which include direct links to course content including Announcements, Discussions, Files, and Assignments
- Ability for users to customize nicknames and colors used to represent their own enrollments throughout bCourses
- Improved performance of bCourses when accessing through a browser on a smartphone or other mobile device
- System navigation menu moved from a horizontal bar across the top of the page to a persistent left-hand vertical menu

In addition to these changes required by the New UI, UC Berkeley has also developed a new logo to represent bCourses throughout the system. This logo makes better use of the new square space available for Berkeley to include our own institutional branding than the previous horizontal logo. The new bCourses logo is consistent with the design elements and colors being used in CalCentral and other campus platforms.
