This email was sent on 01/08/2018 to instructors who are registered iClickers users
Dear iClicker user,

We’re contacting you to provide you with some service updates and make sure you are prepared for the semester.  If you intend to use clickers this semester, please note the following:

Get the current version of the iClicker software: iClicker Classic version 7.17 was released at the end of December 2017. You should update to this version to ensure proper synching with bCourses. In addition, this version adds a new “demographics” feature that allows you to anonymously ask demographic questions and then show graphs of subsequent polling questions segmented by demographics data; see iClicker’s help article on running demographics questions for more info.

To get the current version: If you currently have version 7 of the UCB-configured iClicker Classic (or “i>clicker”) software, you should follow the simple steps to Update to the most current version of i>clicker v7 software. Otherwise, follow the instructions to Download i>clicker software.  (Though you may have received email from the vendor about a product called iClicker Cloud, this is not the software you want.)

If you haven’t used iClicker since last Spring: Review our Fall 2017 News article which covers changes that occurred over the summer.

Don’t forget the new setting to improve Roster Sync: To ensure proper synching with bCourses, you will want to select “Only sync remote registrations with students in your LMS” in the Gradebook tab of your Settings for your course. (This option was introduced last summer. If you’d like to learn more about it, please see our Fall 2017 News article.)

If you plan to enable REEF Polling (iClicker’s mobile solution): Please be aware that use of mobile devices as part of the iClicker system requires robust wifi capability in the classroom in which you are teaching. As such we recommend that you:
  • Contact us in advance telling us in what room you’ll be teaching, so we can try to find out information about the strength of the wireless in the room; we still won’t be able to guarantee that any particular room will work, but we can likely tell you if we have experience or knowledge that indicates it won’t work.
  • Give REEF a trial run for the first week or so of the semester: When students create a REEF Polling account they are automatically granted a 14-day free trial; make sure to warn your students to not purchase a REEF subscription until you have determined that REEF will function correctly in your classroom.
Note that ETS does not currently support iClicker Cloud, the cloud-based system that also allows for participation with the REEF mobile app. We will be evaluating this system this semester. If you are interested in using iClicker Cloud in the future, we’d love to hear from you; please send email to clickers@berkeley.edu

Reminder to put your iClicker order in at the bookstore: To ensure that the bookstore stocks enough clickers, make sure you have included iClickers in your book order. If you do not know how to put in a book order, email text@berkeley.edu to let the bookstore know to order clickers for your course.
