Classrooms Receive Upgrades During Summer 2018 Break

August 24, 2018

Over Summer 2018, the ETS classroom team worked in coordination with the Office of Registrar to install or update the technology in 10 large (50+ seat) General Assignment classrooms (GAC) on campus. The bulk of the work was completed by the end of June and during evening hours in order to have the least impact on Summer classes. The current round of updates brings these classrooms up to our High Definition (HD) standard, which includes upgrades to screens/monitors, projectors, and audio/visual components to improve ease of use and compatibility with current technology standards.

Another large refresh project took place in Wheeler Auditorium, the largest classroom space on campus with about 700 seats.  This was a continuation of the year-long effort in 2016-2017 to modernize the infrastructure of Wheeler Hall. Immediately following the end of Spring classes work began to upgrade the auditorium’s audio visual systems, in addition to new seating, flooring and curtains.  ETS worked with architects and AV vendors as well as partners from across campus, including Capital Projects, Facilities and Cal Performances to bring the audio and video capabilities of the room up to current standards.

As we start the Fall 2018 semester, upgrades to 10 small (less than 50 seats) GACs in Dwinelle are planned. Refresh work will continue through the academic year with plans to complete upgrades in 20+ GACs by the end of the Spring 2019 semester.
